A Large Pewter Platter by Thomas & Townsend Compton - SOLD
This large pewter platter(15 11/16") was made by Thomas and Townsend Compton of London, major exporters to America and descendants of John Townsend. Thomas & Townsend Compton worked from 1802-1814.
This firm produced a wide variety of flatware including plated dishes and basins as well as spoons, teapots, mugs and tankards. They produced items of a very fine quality both in design and metal.
There is an inscription presenting this dish to a woman from her grandmother.
This platter is in fine condition and has strong hammering on the bouge as well a clear lathe marks. The quality and weight is excellent as well
