A Fine Pair of Export Pewter Plates by Thomas & Townsend Compton - SOLD
This pair of 7 3/4" Export Pewter plates were made by the firm of Thomas & Townsend Compton. Thomas Compton was John Townsend's Son-in-Law and Townsend Compton his grandson.
The firm was in business circa 1802-14. They produced wares of the same quality as John Townsend and used the same molds to produce their products.
These plates are in fine condition with just the slightest amount of surface distress. The owner for some unknown reason scribed a circle using a compass on the back of each plate.
The lathe marks are strong as is the hammering on the bouge. The touches are fine as struck. (ON HOLD)
