A Pewter Export Single Reed Rim Plate by Thomas & Townsend Compton - SOLD

The Townsend group was undoubtedly the most prolific of all Export Pewterers. The range of sizes and forms exceeds all other Exporters in our opinion. Yes, there are other pewterers, Henry Joseph for example who had a greater number of certain forms, but as to the volume of goods, no one rivaled the Townsends.

This 7 5/8" plate was made by Thomas and Townsend Compton, working in London from 1802-1814.

The plate is in fine condition with well struck fine touchmarks and nicely hammered bouge. (ON HOLD)
