A Mint Export Soup Plate by Thomas & Townsend Compton - SOLD
Thomas & Townsend Compton were members of the Townsend Dynasty. The firm of John Townsend and his partnerships and successorships are responsible for a considerable amount of the English pewter that was imported here in the Colonies and later the United States.
The firm of Thomas & Townsend Compton was formed by John Townsend's Son-in-Law, Thomas Compton and Compton's second son, Townsend. The firm was in business from 1802-14.
This 8 3/8" soup plate is in Mint condition. It has no knife or wear marks on the surface and is in a state of preservation not often seen. The bouge is beautifully hammered.
