An Export 8" Basin by Townsend & Compton - SOLD
This 8" pewter basin with hammered bouge was made by the firm of John Townsend and his son-in-law, Thomas Compton, that was working circa 1779-1806 and exemplifies the consistent quality of workmanship and materials the firm employed.
The hammering on the bouge is very well pronounced and also very consistent in size over the entire surface.
The metal is in nearly fine condition with a good touchmark showing some wear due to it's location on the outside bottom of the basin.
These basins were made in various sizes ranging from the 8"size like this one, up to at least 12". A "Stack" of these makes for an impressive display.
