A Fine Eagle Marked Basin - SOLD
This basin with a very strange spread eagle has been attributed to Gershom Jones by various scholars. This seems unlikely as Jones had a well designed eagle touch so why would he use something so crude.
Over the years many of these basins had been found in Rhode Island and Eastern Connecticut, so a Rhode Island connection seemed likely. There is also the possibility that a Stonington Connecticut man Prentice Frink may have made these.
He reported a "one quart basin mold" stolen in 1792. As to whether or not he had it returned is not certain.
These basins are always of sound castings and well made. This particular example is in nearly new condition, 7 3/4" in diameter
