A Near Mint Danforth Plate - SOLD

A Near Mint Danforth Plate

This 7 7/8" plate is marked Joseph Danforth and is a near to new condition as found.

Although this is marked Joseph Danforth it is not made by him. Joseph died at the early age of 30 and his shop was taken over by his younger brother and former apprentice, Jonathan. Jonathan worked until 1794 using his brother's dies.

This plate is a remarkable survival. It is beautifully preserved with all the lathe or turning marks clearly visible. The touchmarks are as struck, they were never any stronger. There are a very few light surface marks on the plate.
