A Rhode Island Pewter Plate by David Melville - SOLD
David Melville worked in Newport Rhode Island from 1755-1793. He made plates, basins, platters, porringers, and mugs.
His work was quite accomplished. This plate is unusual in that the main touch mark is double struck (see arrows in photo). Generally, Melville struck his primary touch quite solidly. This one bounced.
The plate measures 8 1/8" in diameter. A nice example of a plate by a man who worked both in Colonial times and the beginning of the Republic.
