An Unmarked Pewter Basin Bowl Porringer with "Boston Initials" - SOLD
This Old English Handle basin bowl porringer is made in the molds used by Edward and Samuel Danforth of Hartford, Connecticut along with Thomas Boardman's firms.
This porringer is in good condition. The beauty of this piece is the wonderful "Boston Initials" beautifully engraved on the back of the bowl. The term "Boston Initials" was assigned to this style of engraving as considerable numbers of pieces of pewter from the Boston area were found with this style of engrave initials. In actuality, the designs for these initials are found in English Pattern Books. The seem to originate in the last quarter of the 18th century and were used into the beginning of the 19th.
The bowl diameter is 3 11/16" in diameter. The overall length is 4 15/16"
