A Pewter Plate by "Love" - SOLD

A Pewter Plate by

This 8 7/16" pewter plate is marked "LOVE". The "LOVE" group of pewterers produced pewter from the mid 18th century through the first third of the 19th. Numbers of pewterers were involved.

LONDON marks were used by various American pewterers in Philadelphia, New York, and Boston. London in the 18th century was the standard by which the world graded quality.

This plate is likely from the shop of Robert Palethorp, Jr. who worked in Philadelphia from 1817-21.

This plate is in fine condition with very fine touches, all well struck.

A nice example of an early 19th century American Pewter Plate.
