A Semi Deep Plate by William Billings - SOLD
William Billings worked in Providence Rhode Island from 1791-1806. Billings and many of the other Providence pewterers shared molds as examples of this plate are found marked by the Hamlins and Gershom Jones. The form of this and other Rhode Island flatware is more in keeping with some Germanic forms of flatware..I have yet to figure out why.
This plate is in very good condition with three well struck examples of his scroll touchmark. This three strike pattern is another trait of German Pewterers. This plate measures 11 1/2" in diameter.
