A Nearly Mint Middletown Quart Pewter Mug by Joseph Danforth - SOLD

A Nearly Mint Middletown Quart Pewter Mug by Joseph Danforth

Joseph Danforth was the second son of Thomas Danforth II and his workmanship is truly on par with that of his father and older brother Thomas Danforth III.

Unfortunately, Joseph passed away at the very young age of 30. Students wonder what legacy of items he would have left collectors to study had he lived longer.

This quart mug is in nearly mint condition. It retains wonderful lathe turnings on the inside of the body and underside of the bottom. The handle retains all of the hand scraped finish marks. Danforth's initial touch is deeply impressed to the left of the handle.

This is one of the finest Middletown mugs we have ever had. It would be very difficult to upgrade this example. The mug measures 5 13/16" to the lip of the body
