This tulip export tankard is likely from Bristol, England. This tankard features an early style lid with flat rim generally seen on early form tankards.
The thumbpiece is unusual in that it is cast in place. This was done on late 17th and some very early 18th century tankards.
Bristol is known for producing forms that are a bit out of sync with the rest of the marketplace. Note the unusual form of handle including the terminal
