A Old English Handle Porringer by Josiah Danforth - SOLD
This 4 1/8" diameter bowl porringer was made by Josiah Danforth of Middletown, Connecticut during his early period circa 1821-1837.
Josiah Danforth was the grandson of Thomas Danforth II of Middletown and the son of William Danforth.
This mold had been used by other Danforths including Thomas II, III, Joseph, and likely William.
The porringer is in very fine condition with a fine slightly worn touchmark struck on the face of the handle.
The weight of the casting is quite heavy and indicates the there was little skimming of the casting to achieve the final product. The quality of the metal is excellent as well. A superb example of a scarce porringer by this craftsman.
