A Wonderful Set of Four Single Reed Rim Plates by Thomas Danforth III

A set of 4 single reed rim 8 7/8” pewter plates by Thomas Danforth III. These are of Philadelphia production. Danforth was in Philadelphia from 1806-1812.

These plates are essentially unused. There are surface scratches from mishandling and a few scuffs. Lathe turning marks show clearly on both face and backs of all four plates. The turnings are fairly deep and more so in two of the plates. One plate exhibits very pronounce chatter marks, indicating the plate was vibrating while being turned.

These plates have double strike of one of Thomas’ eagle touches..this is very unusual as the vast majority of his flatware have single strikes of an eagle touch along with his Philadelphia touch. All the touches are mint as struck.
