A Townsend & Compton Pewter Export Deep Dish - SOLD
Townsend & Compton were major exporters to America. Part to the Townsend Dynasty of Pewterers who were responsible for what is undoubtedly the greatest quantities of pewter sent to America from England. The Dynasty was active from 1748 through the first part of the 19th century.
This firm was a partnership between John Townsend and his Son-in-Law, Thomas Compton. The partnership was active from 1779-1806.
This deep dish measures 11 7/8" and is in very good condition with fine touches and excellent hammered booge. This form is found in sizes ranging from 7 5/8" to at least 18 1/4", imagine a stack of these incorporating these and everything in between
