An Export Pear Form Teapot by Samuel Ellis

An Export Pear Form Teapot by Samuel Ellis

Samuel Ellis worked in London from 1721-1765. To say he had a lucrative export market to New England is an understatement. Ellis exported a wide variety of forms. These included various sizes of Pear-Shaped Teapots found with and without feet, mugs both taper-sided and tulip shaped. Some mugs are found with acanthus leaf decorated handles. He made tankards of Taper-Sided and Tulip Forms. Spire Flagons are also found marked with his S.Ellis in rectangle touch.
Ellis also produced flatware in a wide variety of sizes both plates dishes and basins. These are found in flat rim and single reed rim varieties.

This attractive teapot is approximately of pint capacity. The exterior is in near fine condition with a very few sporadic pits.

The inside bottom has some pitting. Both the handle and finial button are restorations. These are accurate copies of original Ellis handles and finial buttons.

The teapot measures 5 ¾” to the top of the finial. A wonderful design by one of the most major English Exporters serving New England.

Price: $1275
