A Half-Pint Double Volute Baluster Pewter Measure - SOLD
This half-pint English double volute measure dates from the last third of the 18th century and is typical of those found in England and here in North America.
This example came from and dealer in England many years ago.
This example shows one of the methods used on smaller size double volutes to insure the thumbpiece stay attached to the lid. Prior to the thumbpiece being poured in place, there was a hole drilled in the lid and positioned in the mold to insure that the molten metal filled the hole with the thumbpiece directly above it. This was done as the "purchase" from just the fleur-de-lis was inadequate.
This measure is in very good plus condition, 5" tall to top of the thumbpiece and reasonably priced at $325.00.
