A Pair of Rope Border Decorated English Push-Up Candlesticks - SOLD

During the early 19th century the English produced substantial quantities of push up candlesticks with a Pair of Rope Border Decorated English Push-Up and a wide variety of sizes and designs.

This pair measures 9" tall. The border of the base and bobeche have this rope decoration as does the wafer on the shaft as well.

This pair retains its original push-ups. The corks used to center the push-up in the bases have been replaced as they were crumbling away due to the effect of the tallow and whale oil based candles.

There were similar sticks produced in this country as well, some are shown in the Meriden Britannia Co. catalog.

This pair is in very good to fine condition.
