A Pewter Basin by Samuel Hamlin Sr. or Jr.

7 ¾” Basin by Samuel Hamlin, Sr. or Jr. This basin bears the Samuel Hamlin Fan Shaped touch with foliate support along with the hallmarks. As to whether Hamlin Sr. or Jr’s shop produced this is uncertain.

Unlike many pewterers who marked their basins in the center of the bowl, the Hamlin’s offset their touch due to its shape. This is a characteristic was distinctively seen on Hamlin Basins.

The back of the basin shows lathe marks as basin backs were not finely finished. The basin has a nicely molded lip.

This basin is in very good plus condition with a few small shallow nicks to the face surface. The touch is fine “as struck”.
