A Rare 18th Century Connecticut Plate by Amos Treadway - SOLD
A 7 7/8” Single Reed Rim Pewter Plate by Amos Treadway Jr. It is believed that Treadway likely received his training either under the instruction of either Thomas Danforth II, Jacob Whitmore or both.
Treadway ran his business in New Haven from 1784-the late 1780’s and then possibly out of Middletown likely after 1790.
To date Treadway is only known to have made flatware. Pewter by him is very scarce. In the past 50 years I have only had 3 or 4 pieces by this maker.
This plate measures 7 7/8” which is a size that was produced by all of the Middletown Danforths and Jacob Whitmore. The plate is in near fine condition still showing lathe marks on the back and face of the rim. The touches are “as struck” and are deeply impressed.
A very scarce piece of 18th century Connecticut Flatware.
