The Will family of pewterers excelled in both quality and design as this handsome tankard is a testament to.
Henry Will worked in New York City from 1761-1775. He fled New York City in 1775 and moved to Albany where he was a lieutenant in the Tenth Albany Militia. He remained in Albany until 1783 when he and his family returned to New York City. He continued in the business as a pewterer for a time after this. His business diminished and he essentially was out of the pewter trade in the late 1780's.
Winterthur has Henry Will's account book which is a great insight into that trade during the last third of the 18th century.
