This pint mug was made by Samuel Kilbourn who worked in Baltimore, Maryland from 1814-1839; as a Southern maker his work is quite scarce and desirable.
Kilbourn is the only Southern Pewterer represented with surviving hollowware. All other Southern Pewterers are represented primarily by flatware.
This mug is of very heavy construction. The casting is extremely strong and the mug is well crafted. This piece is 4" tall at the lip of the body.
The mark is very good "as struck" indicating that the impression was only a partial one. The metal is in very good plus condition.
Much of the pewter made by Southern Pewterers was destroyed in the Civil War.
