This "saucer' base whale oil lamp dates circa 1820-1850. This is the period of the Whaling Industry in New England. Whale oil was highly valued not only for it's high quality for burning in lamps but also as a lubricant.
This lamp measures 5 1/4" tall to the top of the burner. The burner and collar are brass with the tubes being made of tin plated sheet iron.
This is in fine condition. The burner was slightly marred by someone attempting to loosen it while frozen by dried 150 year old whale oil.
