A 4 1/2 American Sundial Dated 1762 - SOLD

A 4 ½ sundial dated 1762 near the lower end of the gnomon. This sundial has a weathered surface. As there are no maker’s initials the originator of this sundial is unknown.

These likely were used near the 42 parallel as are those marked Josiah Miller with the number 42.

This sundial is very attractive especially with the 1762 date. When one looks quickly at the date it appears to be 1702 however under magnification it becomes clear that the date is 1762.
