A Pewter Old English Handle Porringer by Samuel Danforth - SOLD
This 5" Old English Handle Porringer was made by Samuel Danforth working in Hartford, Connecticut circa 1795-1816 and is made in a set of molds that originated with the Bradfords of New York.
William Bradford circa 1719-58 originally possessed the mold, it then passed to Cornelius Bradford, who stamped a CB into the mold, so a raised cast "CB" appeared on the bracket. The mold next landed in the hands of the Bassetts who hammered the brass mold to obliterate the CB, this resulted in a raised "bump" on the back of the bracket.
This porringer is in fine condition with a fine mark, strong linen mark and well pronounced lathe marks on the back of the bowl.
After Frederick Bassett moved to Hartford, CT the mold ended up in the hands of Samuel Danforth.
