A Handsome Antique American Pewter Quart Pewter Mug by Thomas Danforth II or III - SOLD

A Handsome Antique American Pewter Quart Pewter Mug by Thomas Danforth II or III

This handsome pewter quart mug is marked on the inside bottom with the small lion in circle touch used both by Thomas Danforth II (1755-1782) and Thomas Danforth III while in Middletown and possibly Wethersfield ( 1777-1783). Whomever made it, it is a fine example of a very handsome quart 18th century American Pewter mug.

The bold ball terminal handle still retains the hand scraped finish marks the body retains most of the lathe marks on the outside and inside as well as on the outside bottom. There is some etching on the interior sides of the body. File marks show where some excess metal was cleaned off the molded foot prior to attaching the handle.

The touchmark is mint and perfectly stuck on the inside bottom. The mug measure 5 7/8" tall to the lip of the rim. A superb example of a Connecticut Quart mug of superior design.
