A Pattern 1851 Civil War Eagle Buckle

A Pattern 1851 Civil War Eagle Buckle

Many collectors refer to these brass eagle buckles with applied German Silver wreaths as NCO on Non Commissioned Officers buckles. Although these were indeed used by NCO's they were also issued to enlisted troops of the Cavalry Light Artillery and Dragoons.

The buckles with the three piece wreaths are "first pattern" The buckle measure 3 1/4" long and 2"wide.

The decorated side of the buckle is curved outward. There is a "bench" number 399 stamped on the back edge near the tongue, which fit into the keeper on the belt. This example shows some genuine use and is in very good condition. Note the indents on the back by the tongue this shows this buckle was heavily used.

Price: $345
